Listen to the Wind: The Story of Dr. Greg and Three Cups of Tea, by Greg Mortenson and Susan L. Roth. Nonfiction picture book, ages
6-8.

Greg Mortenson stumbled, lost and delirious, into a remote Himalayan village in Pakistan after a failed attempt to climb up K2. The villagers of the small village of Korphe saved his life, and he vowed to return to build them a school. The remarkable story of his promise kept is now perfect for reading aloud. Told in the voice of Korphe’s children, this story illuminates the humanity and culture of a relevant and distant part of the world in gorgeous collage, while sharing a riveting example of how one person can change thousands of lives. (Worth borrowing if only for the amazing colors and collage illustrations-if you like it well enough to buy your own copy, Amazon will donate 7% of the cost to CAI, Central Asia Institute).

Three Cups of Tea: One Man’s Journey to Change the World…One Child at a Time, by Greg Mortenson and David Oliver Relin and adapted for young readers by Sarah Thomson. Forward by Jane Goodall (ages 18-12, and great for adults as well!)

This is the shorter, easier, version of the adult book “Three Cups of Tea,” specially adapted to bring the remarkable story of humanitarianism up to date. It includes brand new photos, maps and illustrations, as well as a special afterword by Greg’s 12-year old daughter, Amira, who has traveled with her father as an advocate for the Pennies for Peace program for children.
