Annual Meeting Recap & Plans for Pastor Kristin’s Parental Leave

On March 3, 2026, St. Luke held its annual meeting. At the meeting, the congregation received the 2025 annual report, 2025 financial reports, and the 2026 annual budget, and approved Pastor Kristin Riegel’s 2026 Terms of Call.

At the meeting, the Human Resources Committee also provided the following update on the plan for Pastor Kristin’s parental leave:

  1. Kristin’s due date is May 3, 2026. She will be on parental leave from approximately May 3 to August 30, 2026.

  2. With final approval from the presbytery pending, the Rev. Dr. Heidi Vardeman will serve as a part-time “summer pastor” while Kristin is on leave. Heidi is an honorably retired PC(USA) pastor, a dynamic preacher, and an experienced leader well-acquainted with St. Luke.

  3. Heidi will work 19 hours per week and serve as the primary preacher during the summer. In addition to preaching, her primary ministry responsibilities will include:

    • Planning and leading worship with David Lohman,

    • Leading a weekly Bible study,

    • Moderating Session, and

    • Supporting St. Luke’s staff team.

  4. During the summer, St. Luke will have a pastoral care team of four retired pastors available to assist with acute pastoral care needs, funerals, and related matters. These pastors are Revs. Bill Chadwick, Gwin Pratt, Ken Ribe, and Bob Haskin.

We are excited to welcome Pastor Heidi and to share in ministry with her this summer. We are also grateful to Bill, Gwin, Ken, and Bob for their support.
