October Change for Change
/Division of Indian Work
St. Luke has been a supporter, friend, and advocate for our Urban Native community at the Division of Indian Work (DIW) for many years. The mission of DIW is to support and strengthen urban American Indian people through culturally based education, traditional healing practices, and leadership development. DIW, under Executive Director Louise Matson, achieves this by focusing on our Native Urban community, providing programs, services, and a food shelf directly or in partnership with other organizations.
St. Luke has been a vital partner in this mission. At DIW’s Wambli Soars event last year, St. Luke was publicly recognized for the church’s advocacy and support of DIW’s mission. This has encouraged other progressive churches and organizations to step up and mirror our support. Please contact the church office if you would like more information on how to get involved with DIW directly.
And save the date! Derek Nicholas, Traditional Foods Program Nutrition Coordinator at DIW, will be speaking at our Adult Ed on October 19.
