Light in the Storm
/By Cindy Suplick
The chaos, fear, and demoralizing impact of Trump’s actions have directly affected my family. Most of you know my daughter Kate’s exemplary work as a Foreign Service Officer. In Santo Domingo, she had to oversee the return of all her USAID colleagues to the States, with no jobs and nowhere to go. Then, when she arrived in South Africa as Counselor General, her FSO spouse was quickly furloughed and left in limbo. Meanwhile, she is working without pay during the shutdown. They have three young boys and no income. This is just one example.
ISAIAH is launching an ambitious plan on December 13, from 1 to 6 p.m., at the Minneapolis Convention Center, and St. Luke’s members can play a vital role in this effort. We will mobilize 5,000 people from diverse backgrounds to work together in teams over the coming months. Afterwards, we will develop a pathway to rally a significant portion of the state’s caucusgoers around shared democratic priorities. Our base alone includes nine open legislative seats and six contested ones. We will strive to persuade all the candidates to support our vision.
ISAIAH Mass Resistance Plan
Over 1000 people flood the capital on Day 1 of the legislative session to ask for funding for everyday people’s basic needs.
200 churches in Minnesota (including St. Luke) and others from 22 states will act together on Palm Sunday, publicly calling to care for the sick, feed the hungry, and welcome the stranger.
Muslims are organizing in 11 states (more than 500,000).
We are working toward millions of people gathering in Washington, D.C., and elsewhere on July 4 for the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence to reclaim our country.
Please join Kathy Haskin and me in this massive effort to thwart authoritarianism and take back our nation on December 13. We will be tabling in the Garden Court every Sunday until then to sign up folks.
