Laughing for a Cause

Saturday, April 18, 4 p.m. at Oak Grove Presbyterian Church

from Bill Chadwick:

Dear Friends,

After a six-month break, I have resumed my storytelling and stand-up career. This event is close to my heart. VEAP (Volunteers Enlisted to Assist People) has been serving those in need in south Minneapolis, Richfield, and Bloomington for 60 years. It is the largest food shelf in the Twin Cities. (They also provide rent assistance, medical care, rides, and more.)

During the recent ICE invasion, 150 families from Emerson Elementary in Minneapolis, where our grandnephews attend, did not dare to leave their homes. The staff, families, and friends organized a weekly food delivery service over the past two months. Kris, Allie, I, and other extended family members all participated. The food came from VEAP.

Because VEAP can buy food at prices much lower than what individuals pay, we ask that you donate money rather than bring food. A meal through VEAP costs a dollar. So, $100 can provide a month’s worth of food (three meals a day) for an adult.

What truly prompted this event was when I saw a photo of EMPTY SHELVES at VEAP a few weeks ago. (I’ve been involved with VEAP forever, and I’ve never seen that!) We want to refill those shelves.

I hope to see you there. (I promise some new material!) If you cannot attend, there is a QR code for donations.

Blessings and love,
Bill
