Ask Lawmakers to Fund Hunger Relief
/From our friends at Second Harvest Heartland:
Legislation that would provide new and ongoing funding for food banks and food shelves has been introduced in Saint Paul, and both bills have received committee hearings—the first step toward becoming law.
To ensure these bills continue to advance, lawmakers need to hear from you. Click below to quickly and easily send your representatives a pre-written message in support of critical state funding for Minnesota’s hunger-relief network.
After multiple years of record-setting demand for emergency food assistance, plus the drastic impact of federal policies such as historic SNAP cuts, a record-long federal government shutdown, and the ongoing surge in federal immigration activity in our state, the hunger-relief network has been strained. We are joining together with food banks and food shelves from across the state to demand that lawmakers make meaningful investments in hunger relief this session.
The two bills at the top of our list of priorities would:
Establish a new Regional Food Bank Grant Program to help the state’s five food banks and eleven Tribal Nations source and distribute more food at no cost to our hunger relief partners across the state. (Bills HF3568 & SF3770)
Increase funding for the Minnesota Food Shelf Program to help food shelves across the state address rising demand. (Bills HF3624 & SF3904)
Without this funding, more Minnesotans will go hungry, as resources have not kept up with skyrocketing demand. Send your state lawmakers a message today and ask them to make hunger relief a priority.
Thank you, as always, for standing up for our neighbors in need.
