Light in the Storm

After the exhilarating experience of many thousands of people participating in the “No Kings” protests on October 18, I hope that most St. Lukers believe our democracy will eventually recover better from this chaos. But we can’t stop with just one protest. As Trump continues swinging his authoritarian wrecking ball at America’s justice, stability, and dignity, a return to democracy will only happen through positive actions, with that large turnout of concerned citizens continuing to fight together.

We can realize that return to democracy by partnering with other faith communities and broader organizations. St. Luke can be a strong presence in this courageous effort. We encourage you to attend Light in the Storm: Agenda Launch & Anti-Authoritarianism Strategy Training on Saturday, December 13, from 1:00 to 6:00 p.m. at the Minneapolis Convention Center, sponsored by ISAIAH and Faith in Minnesota.

We will come together to plan a pathway to protect our state, neighbors, and families amid the many threats to our democracy; a plan where families across race, place, and religion can thrive in our great country. We will create “YES” agendas to move forward with strength, make plans to join our precincts for caucus, and endorse candidates committed to our grassroots democratic process. We cannot wait for someone else to save us. Each of us needs to be the “light in the storm” to help build the country we truly want to see.
